America Movil abandons bid for KPN

Some two months ago, on NU.nl, I read the report that the Mexican telecom company América Móvil, owned by the billionaire Carlos Slim, had abandoned its bid for the Dutch company KPN. The report reads: “The company refers in a statement to the Mexican stock exchange authorities to the barrier that the Stichting Preferente Aandelen B KPN [Foundation for KPN B Preference Shares] has thrown up and to the discussions it has held with the Dutch company. These have shown according to América Móvil that it would be impossible to obtain more than 50 percent of the KPN shareholder voting rights. Therefore, according to the company, there was no point in continuing with the bid.

Offshore Aircraft Registration Conference

On 12 and 13 December 2013 the 3rd Annual Offshore Aircraft Registration Conference was held in Aruba. The Conference was very well attended and included sophisticated speakers from Aruba and abroad.

Aviation - Open Skies Agreement with Brazil

According to various news publications Curaçao entered into a bilateral air services agreement, on an open skies basis, with Brazil. The bilateral air services agreement makes it possible for airlines of both countries to start air services between Curaçao and Brazil. The agreement applies both to carriage of passengers and carriage of cargo.

Overal lees je dat advocatenkantoren moeten veranderen. Ze zijn te conservatief. Ze houden vast aan het verleden en zijn alles behalve innovatief. Naarmate het economisch slechter gaat wordt de roep om verandering steeds sterker. Met name het systeem van 'uurtje factuurtje' moet het ontgelden.

You read everywhere that firms of lawyers (advocates, attorneys) have to change. They are too conservative. They hold on to the past and are anything but innovative. As the economic climate deteriorates the call for change becomes increasingly stronger.

The validity of a contract can be challenged on various grounds, including error, fraud or undue influence. In the case to be discussed here a contract was entered into by an intermediary. Appellants in cassation (Van Eendenberg) were owners of the parcels on which a preferential right was established pursuant to the (Dutch) Municipalities (Preferential Rights) Act
