The supervision of the financial sector (including banks, insurance companies and trust offices) by the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten intensifies more and more. In late 2017 legislation to regulate competition was introduced in Curaçao, and at the same time Fair Trade Authority Curaçao was set up to oversee that competition remains fair.

Taxation and tax collection often leads to of disputes with the Tax Office, the Public Prosecution Service, the Tax Collection Department, and/or foreign tax authorities.
